Wenzel Signature Series Insta-bed Premium Queen Size Airbed Review

Wenzel Signature Series Insta-bed Premium Queen Size AirbedI purchased this for my grandmother who suffers constant pain with regular beds. She nows has great nights of sleep. I was concerned that her weight which is over 200 lbs would be a problem. Man this bed performs. I have never written one of these reviews and to be honest I hesistated after reading negative reviews. What realize now is that disatisfied people are much more likely to write something and the many more satisfied customers have moved on to enjoy their purchase. This bed is worth every penny and performs exactly as described.

ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 8- by 5-Foot Two- to Three-Person Lightweight Backpacking Tent Review

ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 8- by 5-Foot Two- to Three-Person Lightweight Backpacking TentI am a GEARhead. I own or have owned over 30 tents plus all the fixings... Both backpacking as well as car camping. This tent as far as I know did not exist when I rewalked Colin Fletcher's 1000 Mile Summer through California. Had it, I would've of used the 1.5 model. After getting home and settling in from my walk I ran across both the 1.5 and 2. I own both now and can say they both are killer deals in their price range. And yes I own SD, REI, Kelty, Coleman/Exponent, Moss, Slumberjack Bivy (I used) and on and on and on... I have tried many while hiking in the Olympic Mountains in WA. I would put this model(s) up against any listed. If you have money to burn yes there are some that may be better at lasting a little longerbut I question that too... and yes you can go lighter in weight... but by going lighter you'll give up a lot of comfort and the security you get knowing that you have a shelter that will handle just about anything Mother nature throws at you. Alps other models I'm not sure of size VS. weight and the value VS. dollars. But this model is absolutely great.

Good luck on your hikes,
Hersh

Product Description:
The Mystique 2 utilizes a lightweight 2-pole design with shock corded 7000 series aluminum poles. The walls are a breathable nylon taffeta. The polyester fly and nylon floor are urethane coated, with factory sealed seams for maximum weatherproofness. Entry and exit are easy with 2 doors and 2 vestibules. We have added an additional rear fly zipper for our 2006 models to make getting in and out of your tent even easier. Ventilation is fantastic with the 2 large mesh doors and the end mesh panels. The full coverage fly keeps you dry in even the biggest rain storms and the large vestibules form "porches" to give you places to store extra gear ... and to look outside without getting soaked! A vent is placed on the end of the fly to increase ventilation even further. It has the option of being zipped open or closed, depending upon the weather. Mesh storage pockets are included inside the tent to help you keep track of your small valuables. Instructions are sewn into the tent storage bag so you never have to worry about not having them with you. All stakes and guy ropes are included.

Polar Pure Water Disinfectant With Iodine Crystals Review

Polar Pure Water Disinfectant With Iodine CrystalsOur group used Polar Pure in the Boundary Waters and Quetico on a week-long canoe trip.At first, everyone was squeamish about using iodine and so we spent a lot of time pumping water with a conventional filter. But the filter leaked and so some of us decided maybe we'd try to survive the awful taste of iodine in the water.Color me surprised - the water tasted fine.It was convenient - just dip your water bottle over the side of the canoe to fill, add a capful of Polar Pure solution, shake, and wait 20 minutes. It tasted great.Could I taste the difference between Polar Pure and filtered water?Sure, on a side-by-side taste test I could tell a slight difference. But it was so much more compact and convenient than the water filter that I switched to Polar Pure for the rest of the week. Now I'm going to get bottles for the rest of the family so that we can take it on our hikes and trips in the Cascades and Olympics.A small bottle in a backpack and we'll never run out of water on those hot grinding switchback trails.

Product Description:
Whether you're traveling in unfamiliar countries, camping in the great outdoors, or just want to be prepared in case of emergency, the Polar Pure water disinfectant is a space-efficient, reliable choice. Polar Pure uses a unique bottle design to deploy pure crystallized iodine into contaminated water. This iodine destroys waterborne pathogens, including the Giardia cysts and microorganisms (viruses) that normally pass through filters. All you have to do is simply add water to your Polar Pure bottle--which features a particle trap to prevent the loss of iodine crystals--and you will create a saturated solution to disinfect your water. The water cap then acts as the measuring cup, dispersing the required amount of Polar Pure to disinfect each quart/liter bottle of water.
Polar Pure offers several advantages over other water-disinfectant methods. It's far more portable than carrying household chlorine bleach, which is often available only in a dilute solution when traveling in many parts of the world. It's more convenient than bringing along enough fuel to boil water every time you want a drink, especially at altitude. And unlike most water filters, Polar Pure doesn't get clogged over time. In fact, a single bottle of Polar Pure treats up to 2,000 quarts of water. Other advantages: Polar Pure doesn't deteriorate in extreme temperatures, it has an indefinite shelf life, and it's small and light enough for backpacking or traveling.

BEAUTIFUL POP UP FAMILY CABANA TENT SUN WIND SHELTER BEACH TENTThis beach tent was super! It was exactly what we needed for our 13 month old to play in and sleep in while we were on the beach. It was incredibly easy to set up and take down (as long as you follow the picture diagram that came along with it),and it was able to withstand pretty strong winds. It was great tohave the various options of opening up the front flaps or the back flaps, as well as the side vented windows. Stansport Olympus Dome Tent 5'5" x 6'5" (2 person) Review

Stansport Olympus Dome Tent 5'5' x 6'5'I needed this tent for Back-Packing the "Northern Forests"of North-East Michigan. I was happy with the light-weight & compact portability.
I Gave it 4 stars because it leaked during a thunder-storm & even light-rain thenext day. It wasmy fault for not applying a "Tent-Dry" Product upon the tent prior to taking it into the bush. However, it didn't just leak...It was a FLOOD..I practically floated on my sleeping mat, while my trusty canine companion got soaked. I was bailing water like a life-boat @ sea!
No tent should leak that much, even with-out tent-dry.--Tent was delivered fast & The Quality Construction was very-good & it was roomy enough for my golden Lab, myself & my Gear [Which also got wet].-This is a good tent for the bush ,just don't forget to "Water-proof" W/ a good product.

SwissGear Two Room Family Dome Tent Review

SwissGear Two Room Family Dome TentI got one of this tents two years ago (by the way is black/olive like the one in the picture). In general terms I can say that is a very good tent but only for "not rainy days". As everything in this world it has some pros and cons.

Pros:
1) Its size, huge and comfortable inside for up to five adults in sleeping bags. If you want to use an air matress space is reduced(two full bed matresses don't fit inside).
2) Good quality materials. Fabrics are waterproof.
3)Easy to set up. In fact only one persona can assemble it. Two people make it easier and faster.
4) Privacy. I mean it has privacy windows.
5) Separate storage bags for poles and stakes and one general bag for all.
6) It has some (small) pocket(?) storages in one wall, and it comes with a small net to hang it from the ceiling to put stuff.
7) Good ventilation and no condensation inside, no matter I use a coleman propane heater.

Cons:
1) Not enough vertical space at center. My heigh is 5.90 ft and it is not very comfortable inside, particularly if we consider the net in the ceiling I mentioned.
2) Rainfly does not covers very well all the windows but under rain never leaked from there.
3) Yes, it is water resistant but seams are not waterproof. Under a heavy rain or a long lasting ligh rain it will leak from the seams and probably (just happened once) from the floor. My suggestion is to add some sealer in the seams in the tent and in the rainfly every time you go out, just to be sure you will be dry and comfortable inside.

In general terms I can say I love it. Easy to transport, easy to set up and enough room for me and my wife and all our stuff (the heater, two or three backpacks) a little conventional camping stove and some other little things. But, every time we go out, I have to seal all the seems just to be sure that we will be dry inside. This is the only problem I see in this tent.

ALPS Mountaineering Lynx AL 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season Review

ALPS Mountaineering Lynx AL 4 Tent 4-Person 3-SeasonWe got this tent as a rental from an outfitter. We were surprised, we were expecting a Kelty Gundison. We did not despair, figuring the outfitters knew what they were doing. We weren't disappointed either. This tent is light, compact. It weighs the same and is only slightly bigger when compressed than our ten year old three man backpacking tent (Eureka Pinnacle). It is a breeze to put up.My husband managed it the first time in the dark and the rain in just a few minutes. The two-pole clip system that many of these tents have is great for this.Looking at the build quality, it seemed sturdier than a similar REI tent we looked at.(The clips looked thicker and the floor didn't feel as thin). We got a ground cloth which we used and a gear loft which we didn't.I think my favorite feature about this tent is the awesome vents in the fly that pop open and still keep you dry. There are also clear plastic windows in the fly which are kind of cheesy, but it's nice to be able to see out. My only gripe is a small one and that is in the design of the gear vestibules. The zippers pull from the bottom, so if you are in the tent and want to get out you have to lean way out to reach the zipper. The vestibule is somewhat useless, I think since it is wide and low. This is a really common tent design and I can't figure out why these vestibules are so popular. There's not much you can really do with them.If you had four people with four backpacks, there's no way you'd get them all in there.

We just mostly use the vestibules to keep our shoes dry.It does that fine, but our Eureka Pinnacle does as well and has no extra vestibule zipper to cope with, just an overhang that will keep a small amount of stuff dry. When the weather was nice we pinned back the vestibules so that it was easier to get in and out of the tent. There was also the option to just have half the vestibule open, which worked really well.
If the zipper on the vestibule pulled from the top, I'd probably have given it a five star review.

Eureka Timberline 4 Adventure 9-Foot by 7-Foot Four-Person Tent Review

Eureka Timberline 4 Adventure 9-Foot by 7-Foot Four-Person TentI got this tent when I was 17 years old. I am now 33. It has served me faithfully 17 years in 10 different states, including northern Maine. It's sturdy, and setting it up is easy as pie after the first one. I put a little TLC into this tent every year by putting some seam sealer on it but that's it. I am a big guy, (6 foot 1) and I treat this tent more like a really big two person tent. My two kids and I sleep in this tent with no problem! It fits a queen size airmattress no problem. Eureka is the king of customer service, and many accessories are available. While this tent may seem "plain jane" compared to other tents now available, it's ease to take care of and quick set up make this a great first tent for new comers or a perfect tent for those getting back into the sport of tent camping.

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.
Amazon.com Tent Guide
Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Eureka Assault Outfitter 4 8.5-Foot by 7.5-Foot Four-Person Tent Review

Eureka Assault Outfitter 4 8.5-Foot by 7.5-Foot Four-Person TentThe Assault Outfitter is a great tent; it is made better than the standard tent, and is certainly up to 'expedition duty' quality. It is also roomy for this type of tent, with plenty of room for two large people and associated gear..and lots of gear, making this a true four-season tent.
It has been noted in another review that this is 'not a backpacking tent'; I would argue that it depends on your definition of backpacking. To me, it IS a backpacking tent. If I'm out for a week or more in rugged conditions, frankly, I want a bit more than the average ultra-light backpacking tent offers. No, you won't want to stuff this in your average weekend internal frame pack; not because you can't handle 13 lbs, but because it is bulky. However, if you're old school like me, and use a large external frame pack, like the Kelty Super Tioga, it will swallow this tent up with ease, and pack quite comfortably. Add a few quality compression straps to this, and break it down and distribute the load amongst two or three backpackers, and it becomes even more 'backpack-able'. I'll admit that I'm an old light-infantryman, used to packing sixty-eighty lbs for weeks on end, so 13 lbs of reliable and comfortable living space on my back is a non-issue. If you're an ultra-light minimalist, and want to backpack with only a fanny pack and three matches, this is not the tent for you.
I would add that if you're the type that keeps a 'bug-out rucksack' on standby, this is a great tent to have stuffed inside of it, as it is built heavily enough for serious and extended duty.
If I could only own one tent (and I own several), this would be the one that I kept.

Coleman 6-Person Ara Tent - Green (10'x9') Review

Coleman 6-Person Ara Tent - GreenI bought this hoping to replace my red Ara 4 tent that I purchased at Target. I was looking for a bigger tent, but I still liked the old red design for the most part. From the picture, it looked like there were some improvements from the old model, such as: Bigger, round windows, awning with extended roofline on the front, along with a bigger floor space and taller ceiling. I got the tent and these features were nice, but unfortunately the new features meant that some of the old features were left out. On the Ara 4 (and old red Ara 6 tent), there was an extra pole that held up the front doorway section of the tent, creating more headroom when you enter the tent, expanding the inside space, and making the tent a bit stronger. This tent lacks the pole on the front, and therefore the tent seemed to be slightly weaker and was a bit smaller on the inside than it could have been. On the old tent, there was a small window/opening on the back, near the bottom of the tent that you could use to reach your hand out and maybe grab a soda from an outside cooler, or maybe just use it for ventilation or to look outside. Well, this tent doesn't have it, so there's another negative. The old tent also came with a floormat that went in front of the door, underneath the awning for shoes and what not, but this tent didn't have that either! The back of the tent is almost completely no-see-um mesh, and the rainfly does cover the entire area, but I can almost guarantee that on a cold night, you will get a nasty draft, even if all the windows are closed. Also, the door, in my opinion, is a rather ugly shape, and it is smaller than the door on the old Ara tents, so there's another negative. I even noticed a quality difference when I recieved the tent. There were a few mini puncture-like holes where the seams met at the corners near the bottom of the tent, and I am sure it would leak if it rained. Very unprofessional. Now, the old Ara tents had square windows, which were somewhat irratating, and there wasn't much of a view when the windows were open, but other than that, the old Ara tent was just perfect. I recommend that instead of buying this new Ara 6 tent, go for the old red Ara 4 or Ara 6 tents if you can still find them. Or better yet, see if you can find a tent called the Coleman Mist Trail 6 tent at other sporting goods stores. That one's a keeper. This tent, as long as it doesn't have any holes in the corners, will do nicely as long as you aren't as picky as I am, especially if it's your first tent and you have nothing else to compare to. Otherwise, I would definitely spend your money on something else. I don't know what Coleman was thinking when they designed this. They do make very nice tents, but this one just isn't one of them.

Kelty Villa 4 Four Person Tent Review

Kelty Villa 4 Four Person TentI was interested in the Kelty Villa as it was one of the less costly family-camping tents with a full rain fly that runs to the ground.I discovered the rain fly design is terrible, it fits poorly at the top such that water could pool, and has far too much tension where you access the tent such that it is very difficult to operate the zippers. It is more likely you will break the zipper teeth leaving you soaked in a storm.

The tent does seem to have good ventilation. It's not my favorite tent in terms of quick setup. It takes too long for one (experienced) person.

In total, I would not recommend this product.

Product Description:
Featuring a radical reconfiguration of the traditional dome tent, the Kelty Villa 4 is a great choice for use as a basecamp tent. The three-season, four-person Kelty Villa 4 has a 68 square foot floor area that's complemented by a 14 square foot vestibule area for storing gear and wet, muddy boots and clothing. The tent features extensive mesh at the top as well as four windows and a large D-shaped door for an aerodynamic venting system to regulate temperature and reduce condensation.
Kelty's ArcEdge construction lifts floor seams up off the ground, preventing water seepage around the floor and wall seams. Taped seams on the floor and the rainfly ensure that the tent is protected from moisture and wet weather. Other features include a tall handy organizer wall with a series of bookshelves and pockets keeps everything tidy, internal storage pockets, side-release buckle tent-fly connection, noiseless zipper pulls that resist jingling when it's windy, and color-coded clip construction with DAC DA17 aluminum poles.
The DA17 pre-bent poles are made of proprietary aluminum alloy designed by DAC specifically for tents, which provides a large diameter pole with high stiffness, strength and durability at an affordable price. The clip construction provides great fly separation and increased air movement, and it makes it easier to set-up your tent but offers less strength than full-length sleeves. The clips connecting the poles to the tent are color-coded so set-up is easy and quick in low light conditions.

Kelty Parthenon 8 Tent (Spring 2010) Review

Kelty Parthenon 8 TentI will start by saying that I just got this tent today. That is why it only got 4 instead all 5 stars. There is plenty more it needs to do before it will earn the 5th star.

So why am I writing a review? It passed my rain test. That is the number one test in my book.If it leaks I don't care if it has a basement with a bar...it needs to be dry.

I have had a number of tents...even the old canvas Eureka tents of the day.I had a Coleman years ago that stayed dry, but I have a family now and had to up size.I got an Edie Bauer that got more water in the tent than there was falling from the sky. Finally I put my foot down and said I was going to find a tent that will stay dry and still be large enough to hold the family and all of our stuff.

So I saw a Coleman on sale at Target for $167.Bought it, set it up and gave it the hose.It leaked.I sealed the seams with recommended Coleman seam sealer. It leaked.I returned it to Target. Then I went with the good old Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 (Big mother)($359).I thought it would live up to the name, but unfortunately it leaked.I then sealed the seams with the seam sealer Eureka recommends in the owner's manual, both inside and out.I will admit, it helped a LOT, but is still leaked at the windows where the fabric is sewn in which hold the toggles that you use to roll the windows into. There is no sense in having a tent if you (and your stuff) are still going to get wet.I sent it back.

So I bit the bullet and paid $419 for the Kelty Parthenon 8.Just as I did all of the others, I set it up and put the sprinkler on it.It stayed dry.I Put the sprinkler on some more and ended up with about a total of 1 hour.It stayed dry. Then I had my 9 year-old with the hose spray nozzle hit the window seams and corners directly.Unbelievably it stayed dry.No seam sealer.Just a dry tent.

Like I said.It does what a tent is supposed to do.

****It is a couple of weeks later and I have now camped in it.It rained quite a bit over night and not a drop inside. The wife loves it, and the design of it (Privacy).Kelty hit it out of the park.

Eureka Hex Screen House Review

Eureka Hex Screen HouseI have had 4 different screen houses before this one. This is by far the best. It is easy to set up and has plenty of room. We live in Maine and sometimes have thunderstorms with gusty winds come thru. All it takes is seconds to unclip and pick up the poles and give them a little twist and the tent drops to the ground till the storm goes thru. Just as quick to set up again. I lost 3 tents before to wind. I won't have to worry about that with this one.

After you get your tent pitched take a few minutes to put together Eureka's 3-Season Hex Screen House. When the sun goes down and the bugs come out you won't have to retreat to your tent, and you can sit at a picnic table and play cards without drenching yourself with bug dope. The hexagonal screen tent has a hub and six poles with external clips, so you can set it up in a snap. The two doors open wide enough to move in a picnic table, and it doesn't have a floor, so you don't have to worry about dropping food during mealtime. With 126 square feet, it's like bringing a sunroom to the campground.

MSR Stormking Tent 5-Person 4-Season Review

MSR Stormking Tent 5-Person 4-SeasonJust back from a high altitude trek in the Indian Himalaya and used the Storm King for 2 weeks for the first time. Must mention that the Storm King is a great buy. During the two weeks we were hit initially by rain, then hail and finally tons of snow at 5000m. On some days we had very strong winds as well. The Storm King held up very well and kept us dry and warm. Apart from 3 of us sleeping in the tent the Storm King also easily accomodated the full team of 8 to hang out togeather every afternoon/ evening. The internal height at 64 inches does creare a fair amount of space and you do feel comfortable even if you are a large group. Would strongly recommend the Storm King for those looking for a large expedition tent.

Coleman Weathermaster 7-person Screened Tent Review

Coleman Weathermaster 7-person Screened TentThis tent is as advertised. I can add some personal experiences to this tent. Set up was simple, very roomy (2 adults, 2 kids), with more than enough height to stand up in. The roll up "springs" are a great idea, worked like a charm. I have to say the best part was the rigid door. Getting out in the middle of the night in the dark was as simple as if you were at home. No fumbling for zippers, no waking the family, a gentle push and the door opens right up. I noticed the screened in porch has drainage built in - excellent design.I can speak from experience that this tent can withstand sustained 20mph winds, and gusts to 25mph without giving in.
Packing the tent away was as easy as a small backpacking tent (minus the weight). All in all I would recommend this tent for those who like a large tent with a screened in porch. This is the one. Now how about some built in lights?

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Double Tent Cot (Green) Review

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Double Tent CotFor those whom are considering buying this product-you don't need another review that praises the ingenuity of the Tent Cot so I'll just give you the gripes.

1. Should have included a rainfly
For heaven's sake I could see sunlight through the sewn seams of the roof of the tent which were not taped.A rain fly should not be considered an accessory!!!!!!!!!Yes, I ordered one today.

2.The grommets that secure the poles (you insert the poles in these gromments at either end of the tent roof) for the roof were offset from the center of the strap making it difficult to insert the end of the poles.Quality control problem?

3. The roof would have been better (in my opinion) as a noseeem roof WITH A RAINFLY INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!

4. The instructions are terrible. The setup is simple if you have done it once or twice or have seen it done. Try to figure out the simple setup from the enclosed crude instructions and you will wonder how they can engineer such a great product and stop the process when they got to the instructions-typical old school engineers.

5. No UV protection for the fabric expecially for the rainfly (poor show). $13.00 for a bottle of 333 UV did the trick.

6. At 40+ pounds I would still be tempted to backpack this in for short trails (no ground sheet, mat, stakes, fly weight) but it is so wide. If they had a couple/decouple in the main tubes so you could fold it in half-that would be the ticket!!!!!!!

again a great product but it could be so much more with these little extras.

hope this helps

This would have been a 4 star product if it were not for the above issues.

for what is worth....

Columbia Bugaboo II Systems Fleece Bag Review

Columbia Bugaboo II Systems Fleece BagMy 7 year old son bought this sleeping bag with the money that he earned from selling popcorn and candy bars in Cub Scouts. I am the cub scout leader and his father is the boyscout leader. You could say we do a lot of camping, including snow camping. This is when the boys build a snow cave and then sleep in it... Well, we have 2 other columbia sleeping bags that are mummie style. My husband ALWAYS steals my youngest sons sleeping bag instead of his own. (Only on campouts that my 7 year old is not on. We aren't that mean. LOL) This bag is all of our favorites. I highly recommend it. It has a fleece blanket liner and a pillow that roll right into this bag. You can unzip it and lay it flat to lay on and watch the stars while still being zipped in between the bag and the fleece blanket. It is the warmest bag we have ever had. And we have spent alot of money of so called "really nice" bags. Highly recommend!!!

Chinook Long Star Fiberglass Expedition Tents 6 Person Waterproof Flysheet with PU Height 6.25FT New Review

Chinook Long Star Fiberglass Expedition Tents 6 Person Waterproof Flysheet with PU Height 6.25FT NewLove this tent! My favorite thing about this tent is that you wake up in the morning and you stare at a beautiful light blue color (the tent is white and the rain flap is blue), it was very relaxing. The rain flap is perfect if you easily get cold because it goes all the way to the floor and insulates the tent at night. There are two windows, which the rain flap can cover or has the option to leave open. The vestibule area is very spacious, we had two camping chairs in it during the peak heat of the day and two dogs, yet it was still perfectly comfortable. There are two zippered doors on the vestibule area, which makes it nice for air flow and shade if you get a campsite with few/no trees. You can still enjoy the nature around you and feel protected from the sun. We easily stored all of our camping gear in the vestibule area while we were exploring the area and it was well hidden from sight. Our two large dogs slept comfortably in the vestibule area and had no idea they were not "inside" the tent.

We did not test this tent in the rain yet, but the design seems like it was made with that in mind. There are lots of options for staking the rain flap so that it would allow for rain to fall away from the tent. There is even a flap on the front of the vestibule door, which seems like it would act to keep the vestibule door dry if it was rolled up.

The set up was a breeze, although it is a tall tent, so it is best if you have at least two people setting it up. Very sturdy tent poles. The zippers are great, there are even flaps to protect the zippers from letting rain in the tent. Sometimes these snagged a bit when getting in and out, but not too bad and just learned to be careful. The zipper flaps have velcro to keep them extra secure. I am very satisfied!

Comfort Camp Travel Deluxe Self Inflating Pillow Review

Comfort Camp Travel Deluxe Self Inflating PillowThis pillow started leaking not long after I started using it. After close inspection, I discovered that the location where the elastic straps are sewn into the pillow edge is not adequately sealed. In addition, after rolling it up several times, the straps dettached. Because of the design defect, I wouldn't say that it is a pillow - more like a pad. It just doesn't hold air.

High Peak Endero Waterproofing Tent - 2500mm Review

High Peak Endero Waterproofing Tent - 2500mmThis tent is light and rolls up easily with a good waterproof floor so no footprint is needed. The rain fly is a bit short, which in my view means this tent is not truly 4 season. It is relatively easy to set up, except it is quite challenging to thread the poles into the sleeves. I recommend buying a tent with an external frame rigging to avoid that difficulty. It was very sturdy against sustained 40 mph winds in Patagonia. The biggest problem with this tent (and the reason I rated it low) is because the pole and stake grommets were so badly crimped that most came out on first use. It also appears the zipper fabric will begin to tear after continued use because the fabric is quite thin and the fibers were beginning to separate after a couple of set ups. Still it is a good value for occasional use (if you don't mind replacing the grommets).

Eureka Family 20-Foot by 10-Foot 8 to 12 Person Three-Room Condo Tent Review

Eureka Family 20-Foot by 10-Foot 8 to 12 Person Three-Room Condo TentI must preface my review by saying we absolute love Eureka Tents. The ease of use the water tightness and the durability have been the selling points for us.We have had Timberline 2 and 4 tents and several years use from our Space III,We currently use timberline tents backpacking and a Titan for family camping however, when we upgraded to the Condo we found that all the things we loved about Eureka tents were a burden here.

First the good:

The tent is massive and dwarfs absolutely everything else about it.At some 20 feet long and 9 feet tall it encompasses a massive space accomedating large families or even groups with ease.

The central hub system is the same type used on and loved on so many of Eureka's top of the line tents.

The interior changing room that lets you have privacy while no having to zip up all the windows is a great idea!

The tent is light inside, very well ventilated, and strong.

Downsides:

The central hub system so easy with four poles is not easy with six.

I am 6' 7" tall and found the tent burdensome to set up and too tall, even for me, to comfortably do things like place the fly over the top - even with a running start!

The clear inserts in the zipped in storm flap separate from the nylon simply because the enormous sail area of the tent, creates stresses too much for a stiched joint of two different materials with different expansion/stretch rates and the plastic gives way.

The fly design over the doors is poor.Unlike nearly ever other Eurka tent - there is no overhang.Water drips off the storm fly over the zipper which leaks.Worse if you have to exit in the rain you litterally have to open an outwardly sloping door and the rain coming down and pouring off the fly, runs guess where - right into the tent!No way to avoid it - just poorly designed.

The steel poles also suffer from the huge stresses of such a structure and assume slight, but permanent bends in the direction of the stress. This would not be a issue but it makes them non-interchangeable with the other identical poles. So you might was well mark the poles the first time you pitch this tent as right front pole, left middle pole, etc. becasue that is where you will have to use them and it will save a lot of frustration later.

Storage! This tent takes up a lot of storage space - about the equal of a army duffel bag even larger. It is sort of like hauling a body in a duffel bag and is equally awkward. The fact that this duffel come with two handles one at each end tells you even the designers realized that it would take two people to handle it.

Conclusions:
We used it one season and sold it not because it was a bad tent but far too much of a burden.I buy Eureka tents because I find them good servants - this one made a terrible master.

By the way, this is far too much tent for any family having less than 4 adult and or teenaged family members. You simply cannot pitch it with less people and smaller children are not able to help as the poles are massive - about 16 feet long with a 70 degree bend at the six foot mark.

In short this tent is too much a good thing - combined with a terrible and I mean terrible, rainfly design The shame of it is I wanted very badly to like this tent and could not.
