Mosquito Net Review

Mosquito NetI built an outdoor bathtub overlooking our river in the Salmon River Mountains. The net is suspended from poles over the tub in full sun and susceptible to the daily morning and afternoon winds that come up and down the river valley. It has been up for most of the summer and is still doing the job of keeping bugs away...an added benefit is it keeps many of the pine needles and other blown debris out of the tub as well.Given the wet spring and summer's bumper crop of mosquitos and flies, the tub would have gotten no use without this netting!I will certainly buy more in the future! Great product at a reasonable price.

Trek® Marine Combat II Style Review

Trek® Marine Combat II StyleI recently purchased this Trek version of the US Marine Combat Tent and I can only say I am really disappointed.

As I was pitching the same the side stake-out loops literally tore from the tent fabric. Please note these were the side loops, NOT the corner stake-out loops. There is simply not enough fabric support for the side stake-out loops, as I observed. Lots of tension on these side (middle) stake-out points without it being actually staked-out as I observed.

Do note I was looking forward to many happy years of use with this particular tent.

I love the design and colours of this tent. The rain fly appears to be made of a very thick polyester and well-made. The weak point is the where the side stake-out loops are attached to the tent body/floor material.

Hopefully Trek will address this issue. It's sad seeing is is such a nice tent.

Unlike the "official" USMC Combat Tent (which is a Diamond Brand product), the Trek version is an import (from China), just so you all know.

Guyot Designs Squishy Bowl and Cup Set Review

Guyot Designs Squishy Bowl and Cup SetI will say that I love the color of this bowl/cup set, (I got Tangerine).
The inside is very smooth, while the outside has a brushed/grippier texture.
I was a little disappointed when unpacking and being confrotned with how small they really are. I know that the capacity is listed here, but it's kind of hard to visualize. The cup is 6 oz. That's about the size of a Yoplait yogurt container. The bowl is 16 oz. and is probably about an average cereal bowl size.
I was purchasing these for backpacking, but I don't think the cup would even be worth taking along (although I would definitely conserve food/water!)
I bet these would be great for staying at home with the kids!

AMK Spark-Lite Review

AMK Spark-LiteThe good things you have read are true, but it could be modestly improvemed:
1. There is nothing wrong with the included tinder, but I would prefer to save a dollar.
2. The packaging is excessive for the eco-conscious consumer.
3. The directional marking is fairly clear, but might not be noticed in a stressful situation.
4. A lanyard hole would give more security.

Deluxe Military 'Style' Heavy-Duty King Size Aluminum Folding CotThis product is mis-represented.The cot I recieved is a small, cheap cot.It was shipped poorly packaged which resulted in it's being broken.I contacted the seller, BP Medical, by e-mail who said they would make it right, just call. After several failed attempts to contact the person who e-mailed me, I was finally able to speak with him.He was very short with me and asked what I wanted. Product Description:
You love the outdoors, but you don't love the bugs. Enter the Kelty Screenhouse, a screened-in mesh tent that covers a picnic table or a seating area so that you can stay bite-free on your weekend camping trip. The Screenhouse, which offers 99 square feet of interior space, offers two large mesh doors and four mesh windows, so you can see out in every direction while enjoying your grilled fish. In addition, the Screenhouse stands up to gusts and bumps from passersby thanks to its DA17 pre-bent aluminum poles. Designed by DAC specifically for tents, the DA17 poles are stiffer, stronger, and lighter than fiberglass poles, with a cost that's only slightly higher. And Kelty knows that zipper pulls can be jingly when the wind is blowing, which is why it integrated noiseless zipper pulls into the Screenhouse design. Other features include NiteIze Figure 9 guyline adjusters, which make it easy to tense the rope and release the tension (no more tying, adjusting, and untying knots); clip-sleeve construction, which helps increase the overall strength of the tent; pull-down shades for people who want a bit of privacy; and taped seams for added durability.

About Kelty
Kelty has been building affordable, reliable outdoor gear since 1952, helping everyone--from the first-time camper to the experienced mountaineer--embrace the outdoor experience with confidence. Dick Kelty launched the company after years of making backpacks in his home or garage for friends, hand forming and welding each of the frames while his wife sewed the pack bags. The original Kelty packs included aircraft-aluminum contoured frames, padded shoulder straps, waist belts, clevis-pin attachments, nylon pack cloth, zippered pockets, and hold-open frames. Dick Kelty quit his carpentry business in 1956 to focus full time on Kelty Packs, and turned an old Glendale, California, barbershop into his first retail store and factory. In the ensuring years, Kelty expanded its product line to include daypacks, luggage, waterproof clothing, child carriers, jogging strollers, and more.

MotorGuide trolling motors, Thruster Edition (hand/transom, 30 lb thrust) Review

MotorGuide trolling motors, Thruster EditionPurchased this as a xmas gift for my nephew's john boat.
it works great for him to get around and fish. It was
priced reasonable and we were pleased with purchase.
To our amazement my nephew asked if he could put in on
our paddle boat to see if it would work. It mounted just
fine in the back seat on one side and put the battery on
the other side. Now when he gets tired he doesn't even have
to paddle if he goes to far! He even carries a rod and tackle
just in case.

Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Katadyn Exstream Virustat Purifying Kit Review

Katadyn Exstream Virustat Purifying KitI used this filter when I went to Haiti as part of a relief team after the earthquake. I drank water from what ever source I could find and I had no problems what so ever. The best testimony I can give is that I spent a week over there and did not get sick. The filter does give a slight iodine taste but nothing like drinking water with iodine tablets added to it. The flavor is just a slight iodine flavor.I will have this filter with me when I go back next month and where ever I go that has a questionable water source.

Sierra Designs Night Glow Disc Attic Review

Sierra Designs Night Glow Disc AtticI purchased this item for a ten-day camping trip.We have a two-year old and a suspended night light in the tent seemed like a great idea. All I can say is that this is very poor execution on Sierra Designs part. The little frisbee thing attaches w/ velcro that is not very good quality. The attic itself is ok but smaller than the image implies. The biggest problem I have w/ it is that the light cannot be turned off once the batteries are in.(It takes two rather pricey coin batteries that will only last about seven hours)We had fun w/ it the first night but after that,it was yet another useless piece of plastic w/ a logo. Disappointing for Sierra Designs and definitely not worth the money.Buy a different brand and a wind-up led light for the same money and much more use.

Swiss Gear Valais 14- by 11-Foot Family Dome Tent Review

Swiss Gear Valais 14- by 11-Foot Family Dome TentThe other lady S. Haley obviously started having problems when the poles were missing, so from then on out she wanted something to complain about. The openings are there for a reason and are closable.

The double arch makes it one of the largest area tents in its class, and it is waterproof unlike all others in its class. The overhangs on all sides allow for the largest opening of the screen system I have ever seen, especially during adverse weather. At 28 lbs it is not intended to be a backpack tent, but could be humped in for a short distance. The tent is of very high quality, unlike the Coleman options in class. The Wenger products offer sealed floors and seams, polyester taffeta fabric with two coats of polyurethane coating, the windows are massive for great air flow, an electrical port for supporting electrical devices (generator or for backyard camping), a mud mat, a gear loft for storing the lighter stuff that is always in the way, shoe pockets, and a removable rain fly for an open air experience during those clear sky camping outings.

If you want to save money and get 1/3rd the tent, buy a Coleman, if you want something that lasts and is well built get a Wenger Swissgear.

Sportz® Dome-To-Go SUV / Hatchback Tent Review

Sportz® Dome-To-Go SUV / Hatchback TentPurchased the hatchback tent for our annual trip to the 24 hours of Daytona.Set up was quick and easy.Everything was working great.
However, the sleeve over the end of the vehicle is attached by 2 suction cups on top, and did not hold up to the Daytona wind.A better design would be a strap from 1 wheel well over the top to the other wheel well, sewn into the sleeve.
Item 2: one of the shock cords broke when we were taking it down.No big deal, but make the shock cords heavier.
Nothing's perfect, and a few fixes make it a great roadside camper.

Trango 2 Tent - 2 Person by Mountain Hardwear Review

Trango 2 Tent - 2 Person by Mountain HardwearMy wife and I have an older version of this tent and I will never buy another tent from anyone else. This MH tent has kept us dry through so many East Coast Summer torrential downpours I have lost count. So many times we have gone to bed in a full campground, and woken up to have the entire place to ourselves due to an over night storm. As they say, you get what you pay for; and in this case it's worth every penny.

The only drawback we have; is that our version doesn't have a lot of ventilation so sit is warm in the summer time. This version seems to have a lot more vents.

Buy a Mountain Hardware tent, you won't regret it!

Johnny Stewart® Preymaster™ Digital Predator Wildlife Caller Review

Johnny Stewart® Preymaster™ Digital Predator Wildlife CallerThis call works great. The sound is clear, even up max volume. The instructions say it will work up to 200 yards. I have tested it to 185 yards and everything worked as it should. You do have to have a clear line of sight. Any branches or brush in the way will block the signal. Reviews of other brands say they go through batteries quickly. I have used this a lot and have not had to change batteries.

BlackPine Deluxe-6 Turbo Tent Review

BlackPine Deluxe-6 Turbo TentPurchased the BlackPine Deluxe-6 Turbo Tent a few weeks ago and have only had a chance to use it once. I did two test setups that went well. And then final setup at the camp ground. The setup is almost as easy as the video shows. They claim 60 seconds ... I claim 6 minutes. you still have to hammer the corner stakes into the ground and that takes most of the time. But all and all very fast on setup. The material is solid rip-stop heavy. Which of course also makes the tent heavy. I believe it weighs in at a feathery 50 pounds. You will most likely not be hiking this beast any where for any duration. There are only two issues that I have with the tent. 1) The zipper is plastic. I know they were NOT trying to save on weight, so I don't know why they didn't just place a metal zipper. 2) The top pops up, but does not lock. I have not had a problem with it yet, but I wonder if eventually it will just "un-pop" with a lot of use. On a scale from 1 to 10 I would give this tent an 8.
Also, this tent can be popped up so fast, you end up helping who ever you came with put up their tent! Although it is fun to race them.

RV Camper Awning Canvas Cloth Tent Hole Repair Patch - Tear Aid 6" x 12" Patch A Review

RV Camper Awning Canvas Cloth Tent Hole Repair Patch - Tear Aid 6' x 12' Patch AThis patch worked great to fix the 8" rip in our RV awning. My husband found the patch on Amazon. He's off the hook now since he wasn't careful and caused the rip. It's as good as new now! I applied the patch and it was simple with the supplied instructions from Empire Toy. It's very sticky and transparent (can't see it at all). Great item!

TravelJohn Solid Waste Collection Kit Review

TravelJohn Solid Waste Collection KitWe took the Kit on a 3 day kayak trip.
One use was enough for me!
The storage bag did not leak liquid or "solids".
I didn't check to see if it turned to a gel!
But, wow, did it stink.
The other boats couldn't follow me, my cargo hatch still stinks, and my wet/dry bag only smells better after a bleach dunk.
Use it if you have to, but be prepared to plug your nose afterward.

Eureka Freedom Outfitter 11-Foot by 6.5-Foot Two-Person Tent Review

Eureka Freedom Outfitter 11-Foot by 6.5-Foot Two-Person TentI bought my son a Eureka 4XT years ago when he was a Cub Scout & I was the Cubmaster. Now that he's in Boy Scouts, dads like me (I'm still an adult leader) have to use our own tents. However I've since landed in a wheelchair so this design really appealed to me.

Our Boy Scout Troop uses all Eureka Outfitter tents so the boys have no trouble assembling this for me if I need help. This is very important when we're too close for my chair to navigate between the tent plots as proved to be the case at West Point this year. The National Jambo will be even worse.

The fan door is awesome even for able bodies especially if the area is cramped. The door is more navigable than a staked flap which can create a tripping hazard.

Assembly is a little unusual at first but very sensible once you're used to it.

I encountered an extreme wind & rain event this year with no issues at all. This tent fared much better than the cheap mass merchant tents that so many parents buy.

Many people are shocked when they see me at a camping event in my custom off-road power-chair but this Eureka Freedom Outfitter makes it all possible in grand comfort & style.

This tapered rectangular dome tent sleeps two and has a self-supporting five-pole aluminum frame. The combination side entry doors/windows in sleeping area are sized for side transfer of a person onto a cot. Pull handles on internal door and window zippers allow easy grasp and operation. It also features large windows for great views and excellent ventilation.

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.

Lightsabre Bivy by Black Diamond Review

Lightsabre Bivy by Black DiamondI've used this bivy shelter for a month straight now and can still say that I like sleeping in it.It easily knocks the socks off of a traditional bivy, while still giving (most) of the comfort of an ultralight tent.

Some of the good points are:
*Its longer than it looks.I'm 6'0 and have enough room to put a small pack (Golite Infinity or Six Moon Designs Starlite).Granted, there isn't much room left, but its plenty to sleep and read.

*Its comfortable for sleeping.I had great reservations about this tent, thinking I would wake in the night feeling claustrophobic.I never have.the bug netting is far enough away from your face that it feels more like sleeping in a tent, and the leg room is plenty (much more than what you'll have in a sleeping bag anyway.

*Its pretty darn waterproof. It doesn't come factory seam sealed, so you'll have to do that yourself, but I've never had any trouble with rain, whether its snow, sleet, misty rain or even long thunderstorms. Its technically classified as water resistant, but it has been perfectly waterproof for me, even when standing water reached the seams.

*Its light.Lighter than a tarp tent (1 lb 4 oz). You'll probably want a tarp (see below), which will add a few extra ounces, but, even with the added weight, its still about the lightest tent you can get.Plus, being free standing, and only a few inches wider than my shoulders, you can set it up inside shelters for extra protection if need be.

Despite the good points there are some bad design flaws:
*Condensation. For the most part it does just as well getting rid of condensation as any tarp tent (and some double wall tents). You will have trouble with condensation on your chest area depending on the weather.A good driving wind (from the head) will pull most condensation out, even with the bug netting closed and the outer material mostly zipped. In other weather you will have to experiment with leaving the outer material unzipped, and even the bug netting partially unzipped.

*Its hot. That's not such a bad thing in cold weather, but it does limit the use you will get during the summer.Since there is only one opening you will never be able to get a cross-breeze going. This means that, with the bug netting zipped, the bivy will get stuffy without a strong breeze.Leaving the bug netting partially (or even fully) unzipped helps, but kind of defeats the point. After all the bugs will be bad when the heat is.

*Changing clothes is a bit of a chore, if you have to do it inside the tent. It's certainly better than changing inside of a Hennessy Hammock, since you can brace yourself against the ground, but its still harder than it should be.There is one seam in particular, which usually runs directly over the chest (in the bug netting) that gets in the way.For some reason this seam doesn't stretch as much as the seam in the outer tent material.I would suggest unzipping the bug netting and turning on your side if you need to change. There is a bit more lateral room to kick around.

*The number one complaint I have about the bivy is that you have to be inside before it rains, and can't get back out until it stops. The opening is a J zipper that runs along the side and top of the bivy.Opening both the outer material and the bug netting, then getting inside, then zipping them back up again without getting both yourself and your gear inside (mainly the sleeping bag) wet is just impossible. You can solve this problem by bringing a small silnylon tarp with you, and setting it up just over the opening, but that adds a few ounces to the tent weight.I can't think of any other way they could have designed the bivy to escape this problem, but it is an annoying one.

The Go Plate Review

The Go PlateThese are really cute and a great idea. HOWEVER, dont plan on getting alot of use out of them. The are very flimsy and wont last long. Great novelty item or one time use item. Disappointed :(

Product Description:
The Go Plate is the answer to mobile socializing. Hold your plate and drink in one hand easily, then eat, greet, and cheer with the other hand. They're perfect for tailgating, picnics, outdoor concerts, street fairs and more. The Go Plate has a specially engineered center cone that accommodates glass bottles and aluminum cans, resting comfortably and snugly around them, and it has a specially designed ridge that can also accommodate standard 16/18-ounce plastic cups. To enjoy your beverage, you just lift The Go Plate off.

The Go Plate can be used with bottles, cans, and standard 16/18-ounce plastic cups. Go Plates are made of sturdy RPET (the same plastic used with water and other clear bottles) and are recyclable. Additionally, you can re-use your Go Plates, as they can be hand washed or placed in the dishwasher (top rack safe).
To "operate" a Go Plate, simply select a drink and place it under the plate.

If it is a bottle, push it through the top opening. It is now secure for eating off the plate. Lift plate off to drink, replace, repeat until you are full.
If it is a can, take your free hand, and push the plate cone down until the can meets the underneath side of the cone opening. It is now secure for eating off the plate. To drink, twist the can and the plate in opposite directions to lift the plate off the can.
If is it a cup, carefully rest the plate on the cup, securing the top lip of the cup in one of 3 sets of ridges under the cone meant to provide a point to balance the plate on the cup. Push to snap into place for more stable eating. Unsnap to drink, replace plate, repeat until you are full.

COLEMAN HOOLIGAN 4 - 9' X 7' BACKPACKING TENT Review

COLEMAN HOOLIGAN 4 - 9' X 7' BACKPACKING TENTThis probably has something to do with the fact that it was 90 degrees out over the 4th of July weekend, but this tent seemed to have a hard time venting. It didn't rain, but it looks like it would do a great job keeping water out (assuming the seams are nice and tight). There's plenty of space for two people, but any more than that would be pushing it. I really have no idea how they determine the capacity of tents. Overall, it's not too expensive and is quick to set up; a decent tent.

Seattle Sports E-Pod Dry PocketThe online info says waterproof, the packaging says splash resistant... two entirely different things if you are going to be taking it in a canoe or kayak where you can tip.Tested the product just to be sure. The cloth seams used to attach the fabric backing and the clear window leaks water creating harmful fogging inside the pouch.Package arrived yesterday, it is back in the mail today.

Coleman Exponent Avior X2 Tent Review

Coleman Exponent Avior X2 TentI have been an outdoors-man for some time and I am particularly happy to have found this tent. For the money, it is everything I could want in a tent.It fits inside my hiking backpack right next to my sleeping bag.It is lightweight, fast and easy to setup, comes with a repair kit, and everything fits back in the bag for once.I was considering a few other tents when I actually got a chance to see this one on the trail at Red River Gorge. I bought it as soon as I got home from that trip.I have used it 4 times this summer and I have found no problems with it.It was a little cold the one morning when the frost was on the outside, but I had a good bag. I really enjoy this tent.

Product Description:
The Coleman Exponent Avior X2 is a sturdy, compact 3-season tent made to stand up to the elements. With its wedge-tunnel shape, the Avior offers a spacious sleeping room for two, with two doors and a separate storage area; it's a great choice for couples, distance hikers, touring cyclists or a solo traveler with a dog. The Avior X2 features an innovative fly-first design, allowing the tent to stay dry even when setting up in the rain: the fly contains the pole structure and is pitched first, then the inner tent is clipped to the fly. Pre-bent aluminum poles with slip-track mesh pole sleeves make setup simple the first time. The Avior X1 is a 1-person tent, measuring 91" x 49", with a peak height of 39". The vestibule provides an extra 8.6 square feet of storage space. The fly is made of tear-resistant, coated, UV-protected polyester ripstop; the inner tent uses breathable, non-coated polyester to reduce condensation, with a nylon taffeta floor. The interior groundsheet of the vestibule can be zipped on and off, providing optional weight reduction for backpacking. The Avior tent features premium, aircraft-quality aluminum poles that are lightweight and compact yet provide excellent strength and stability. The zipper cuffs sport reflective trims for nighttime visibility; reflective fibers are also woven into the guylines. Compression carry bag included. Pack weight 4 pounds 3 ounces; minimum trail weight 3 pounds 8 ounces.

Paha Que Cottonwood 10 x 10 Shade Shelter Review

Paha Que Cottonwood 10 x 10 Shade ShelterI purchased this sun shelter for my family's vacation on the Outer Banks of NC.It was over a hundred degrees that week and being outside would have been prohibitive without this shelter. It was a huge success.Although it was easy to put up, we decided to leave it up for the entire week -- including overnight.Even the breezes of the Outer Banks couldn't blow this thing down.Special note: I purchased 17 inch, sturdy anchors to keep it secure. The short, dainty anchors included with the shelter would not have worked in the sand.

Product Description:
An ideal alternative to heavy, clumsy steel frame shelters that cost and weight too much, Paha Que's Cottonwood 10 x 10 Shade Shelter is perfect for campsites, backyard barbeques, picnics, soccer games, tailgating, and hanging out at the beach. Very lightweight, the Cottonwood packs down to a compact 8 by 28 inches and comes with an oversized duffel-style carry bag. With a generous peak height and more than six feet of headroom in the corners, this user-friendly shelter can be set up in around five minutes on most ground conditions. Don't be fooled by it's light weight, as the Cottonwood Shade Shelter delivers high performance even in strong winds.
Supported with a heavy-duty 6000 series alloy aluminum shock-corded pole set, shock-cording keeps the pole segments together for ease of assembly. Continuous pole sleeves make inserting the poles a breeze while also eliminating the need for roof pole clips or snaps that tend to break, rendering your tent useless. The Cottonwood 10 x 10 comes complete with a full set of adjustable and reflective guylines two complete sets of ground stakes to accommodate any ground conditions you may encounter. Paha Que's shelters also offer heavy high-quality fabric and superior UV protection while also providing up to 50 SPF.

About Paha Que
Paha Que Wilderness Inc. is a young and innovative company that makes high-quality family camping tents. Campers love them, but when they first see the name in print, they pause and wonder just how to pronounce it and try to understand its meaning. You won't find it in any dictionary and there have been debates amongst linguists about its derivation. According to the legend behind the term, Paha Que is the Southwest Indian version of "Aloha." Paha Que takes it to mean "happy trails." It can mean hello, good-bye, how are you, have a good day, and more. Perhaps a variation on the Spanish phrase Que Pasa? The people at Paha Que learned it from a local rancher friend whose grandpa learned it from local Indians. It boils down to the fact that the name is surely different, and appropriately so because these tents are very different from ordinary tents.

Black Diamond Cosmo Headlamp Review

Black Diamond Cosmo HeadlampI have owned this headlamp for 6 months. I use it at my mountain cabin where it is sometimes pitch dark. I cannot say enough good things about how it brightens the night. I use the low setting for around the campfire or for house hold chores. The high setting single beam throws light clearly for about 80 yds. I use it for night hiking. Some headlights reflect down into the eyes of the user this one does not. I am buying a few more of these as I have need in my car and around the home, it is 1000x better than a flashlight. Great unit!!!
