Princeton Tec Impact II Optically Enhanced LED Flashlight Review

Princeton Tec Impact II Optically Enhanced LED FlashlightPrinceton Tec makes great flashlights, and this is no exception. It's a small, compact, extremely handy light. I didn't expect much in terms of ligth output, but it's actually surprisingly bright for an led flaslight. Battery life is great.

Princeton Tec Impact XL Maxbright LED Flashlight Review

Princeton Tec Impact XL Maxbright LED FlashlightI enjoy walking and for many reasons I often end up walking after the sun sets. This LED flashlight illuminates a narrow beam with a range of about 80 feet.Unlike incandescent lamps this beam slices through dewey air.The flashlight is very light and compact. It is very comfortable to hold even for a 4 mile walk.Battery use is minimal and I finally replaced my first set after about 9 months of use.It took a short time to get used to twisting the light to turn it on and off but I am now thoroughly comfortable with that.I have ordered a second and give this light my highest recommendation.

Emerson 12 LED Lantern Review

Emerson 12 LED LanternI bought two of these lanterns to take on a Girl Scout camping trip.I also had some other kinds of lamps there.None of the girls wanted to use the Innovage lanterns, because they were not bright at all.I was pretty disappointed.

SwissGear Two Room Family Dome Tent Review

SwissGear Two Room Family Dome TentI got one of this tents two years ago (by the way is black/olive like the one in the picture). In general terms I can say that is a very good tent but only for "not rainy days". As everything in this world it has some pros and cons.

Pros:
1) Its size, huge and comfortable inside for up to five adults in sleeping bags. If you want to use an air matress space is reduced(two full bed matresses don't fit inside).
2) Good quality materials. Fabrics are waterproof.
3)Easy to set up. In fact only one persona can assemble it. Two people make it easier and faster.
4) Privacy. I mean it has privacy windows.
5) Separate storage bags for poles and stakes and one general bag for all.
6) It has some (small) pocket(?) storages in one wall, and it comes with a small net to hang it from the ceiling to put stuff.
7) Good ventilation and no condensation inside, no matter I use a coleman propane heater.

Cons:
1) Not enough vertical space at center. My heigh is 5.90 ft and it is not very comfortable inside, particularly if we consider the net in the ceiling I mentioned.
2) Rainfly does not covers very well all the windows but under rain never leaked from there.
3) Yes, it is water resistant but seams are not waterproof. Under a heavy rain or a long lasting ligh rain it will leak from the seams and probably (just happened once) from the floor. My suggestion is to add some sealer in the seams in the tent and in the rainfly every time you go out, just to be sure you will be dry and comfortable inside.

In general terms I can say I love it. Easy to transport, easy to set up and enough room for me and my wife and all our stuff (the heater, two or three backpacks) a little conventional camping stove and some other little things. But, every time we go out, I have to seal all the seems just to be sure that we will be dry inside. This is the only problem I see in this tent.

Ridgeway By Kelty High Country 3-Person Backpacking Sport Tent Review

Ridgeway By Kelty High Country 3-Person Backpacking Sport TentI bought this at Costco for about $10 cheaper.I used it this weekend at Patapsco Valley State Park in Maryland. It is easy for me to set up alone in just a few minutes, and I'm short. Putting in the side bars is a little tricky and has created a few rips in the nylon sleeve, but it's not a big deal and doesn't affect performance. It rained over the weekend, but I stayed nice and dry.I was a little concerned that the rainfly was a bit small, but it worked very well. The night it rained it was also very humid. The side windows were nice for ventilation. The mesh "loft" is a good size for holding a small lamp. The side mesh pockets were great for holding my glasses and headlamp. The rectangular shape is great for fitting more than one tent on a campsite pad.

I wish it had two doors instead of one.I think it's a little heavy for backpacking, but great for car camping. Also, it's supposedly a 3 person tent, but I'm not sure where the third person would sleep. It's a good size for 1 or 2.

Overall it's a good value for the money.

Coleman Sundome Tent - 7x5' Review

Coleman Sundome Tent - 7x5'I bought this tent as I needed a smaller one for a yearly group camp out with very limited space. I didn't arrive until 11 PM and was very tired. I managed to get this little tent up for the first time by myself with only a small flashlight in just a few minutes. Just as I was ready to turn in, it started to sprinkle, so I then had to get the rain fly up. Also very easy. It was 2 days later that the rain started in earnest. This wasn't a deluge, but a steady rain that lasted about 5 hours in the day, and resumed at night for several more hours. I stayed very dry and comfy. I've seen a lot of people with cheap tents that are just that, cheap. This one seems pretty well made. The rain fly worked well. I had started out with a tarp underneath to protect the bottom, but had to grab that to cover up the rest of my equipment. I realize the flooring probably won't last forever, but I will make sure I use a groundcloth in the future. It was just as easy to take down, and the storage bag included is large enough. My only negative comment is that it is very small. If 2 people share it, I hope they are very good friends. I used a Coleman twin air bed in it, and seemed to have about 12 inches to spare for some of my gear. But I'm just used to a larger tent also. It does have a pocket on the wall, which was perfect for storing my glasses and small flashlight.

Swiss Gear Kanderstag Backpack Tent (Blue/Grey) Review

Swiss Gear Kanderstag Backpack TentThis is a pretty nice tent as far as setup and looks. We used it for three nights and the first it flooded completely in the rain while my neighbors coleman stayed dry all night long.We even put a canopy over it the second night, and it still leaked. As far as fiting four people in this , it would be possible as long as your all in a sleepig bag.We used a air mattress(quenn size) and barely had room for our bags. The frame was quite sturdy and held up extremely well in the 20 mph winds we were having.I would recommend this tent only if you are going to use it in a dry climate or know for sure your not getting any rain.

Wenzel Pine Ridge 10-by-8 Foot Four-to-Five-Person 2-Room Dome Tent Review

Wenzel Pine Ridge 10-by-8 Foot Four-to-Five-Person 2-Room Dome Tenton the plus side, it didn't leak in a severe rain storm and has a lot of capacity for the cost. on the negative, the zippers were constantly getting snagged on the fringe around them...it was ridiculous to have to keep untangling it every time i opened and closed the tent. maybe i had a defective one, but it seemed more like a design flaw. i've had great luck with wenzel tents in the past (cheap and usually very reliable), but i'd skip this model. the door's zipper eventually got so snagged that i had to cut it out in order to have some kind of functioning door, and the tent got ended up getting abandoned after one use. displeased.

Product Description:
Spacious and weather-resistant, the Wenzel Pine Ridge 10-by-8-foot dome tent sleeps four to five campers in its two rooms, making it ideal for small families or couples with lots of gear. The Pine Ridge is made of rugged, weather-repellent Weather Armor polyester with a polyurethane coating for reliability, helping it keep water out and warmth in. The sonic-sealed, polyethylene tub-style floor, meanwhile, is welded and not sewn, eliminating needle holes that might otherwise attract water seepage. And campers will love the variety of ventilation points--including two mesh doors, one mesh window, and a mesh roof--which combine to create a refreshing cross breeze on warm evenings.
The Pine Ridge is also easy to set up, with shock-corded fiberglass poles and grommet pole attachments. And when it comes time to hit the sheets, you can either create one large sleeping room or roll down the divider curtain to create two separate rooms. The rooms can function as individual bedrooms for the campers or as a sleeping room and living area. Other details include a hooped fly at the front and rear for weather protection, two hanging pockets for storage, and a storage duffel.

Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all-purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in. If you're a backpacker, alpine climber, or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to buy something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall, and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three-season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are specifically designed for summer backpacking or other activities. Many premium tents will also feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain fly for enhanced waterproofing.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four-season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types: freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and tents that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being lighter. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Wenzel Ponderosa 10- by 8-Foot Four-Person Two-Room Dome Tent Review

Wenzel Ponderosa 10- by 8-Foot Four-Person Two-Room Dome TentThis tent was pretty easy to put up, even for a little first timer like myself ( I am under 5 feet and was able to do it by myself, although it recommends 2 people).Definately use 2 people if they are available, simply for holding the rods steady as the tent goes up.It drizzled a bit on the camping trip, and the tent held up well with no extra sealant, and was tall enough for me to stand in.The privacy curtain came in handy while dressing or napping, since I shared my tent with 1 other person most of the trip. The number of people that fits in the tent is misleading, the tent says it fits 4-5 people, when what it really fits is 3 twin size air mattresses side by side, with about 1 or 2 inches on either side.If there are just sleeping bags, no air mattresses, it could probably fit about 4 people. The tent comes down just as easily as it goes up and fits nicely into the provided bag.

Happy camping!

Product Description:
Great for hiking and biking trips, the Ponderosa two-room tent is lightweight enough at 10.8 pounds to carry on a backpack or saddle bags yet spacious enough to sleep four people at once. The tent base measures 10 feet by 8 feet, with a height in the center of 60 inches--more than enough space for an informal game of cards at midnight. The removable divider curtain, meanwhile, adds a bit of privacy in crowded conditions. Construction details range from a shock-corded fiberglass frame with a pin and ring connection to a weather-armor polyester fabric with a polyurethane coating. The frame is designed for quick and easy setup--a far cry from the clunky frames of yesteryear--while the coated fabric is reliable and sturdy regardless of the weather.
And should the rains come pouring down, the tent's armor-tough seams and water-repellent threads, zippers, and webbing stand ready to resist. The tent even includes sonic-sealed floors that are welded (not sewn) to eliminate stitch and needle holes, ensuring that water from rain-soaked dirt won't sneak in. Additional details include three windows (two in the front and one in the rear), Dutch D-style doors for easy entry from either side of the tent, and four mesh roof vents for circulation and moisture control. The Ponderosa is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

Suisse Sport Fit 3 Person 7x7 Feet Doom Camping Tent with Window Review

Suisse Sport Fit 3 Person 7x7 Feet Doom Camping Tent with WindowSuisse Sport Fit 3 Person Tent.I Just used this tent for a five day camping trip in the Tennessee mountains. It went up easy and stayed dry during a heavy down pour.Saying it is a 3 person tent is a bit of a stretch.I can see 2 people using it fairly comfortably but 3 would be very tight. Also, due to the slant of the sides, if you are over 6 feet tall your head and feet may hit the walls. For 1 or 2 people under 6 feet tall this is a good product for the money.

Suisse Sport Yosemite Tent Review

Suisse Sport Yosemite TentThis was our first tent purchase, and we've found it to be a very good entry level tent.I like the inside height that allows me at 5'8" to stand upright, and the room divider allows for a little privacy, but since it's just a curtain, it's also easy to remove and open up the whole tent. With the double doors and three windows, as well as the mesh top under the rain fly, it's got pretty decent ventilation. I wouldn't say this is a four season tent, as the nylon taffeta is a little thin for cool weather camping, but it handles rain well.I did seam seal and waterproof the rain fly and tent before we camped the first time, as I was told by experienced campers that's the best way to ensure dry camping, and I've no complaints. It's not too difficult for me to put up by myself in 20-30 minutes, but with help, we can get it up in 10 minutes easy.I didn't give it a 5 star rating because it has pole sleeves to thread the poles through (clips are better), the stakes it comes with are pathetic, it has little in the way of gear pouches and no power access. You can fit two queen air mattresses in the tent with a little space at the feet for gear, but it's a tight fit, and heavy rain may condense on the inside of the tent from the pressure against the walls. One queen and a twin air mattress work better, reducing sleeping capacity to three adults, but decreasing tension against the walls and increasing storage and standing space in the tent. Finally, the bag it comes in holds all the parts of the tent plus has room for my mallet and extra stakes, and has a carry handle to make transporting it more easily.I highly recommend this tent for a beginner or occasional camper.

Enjoy a little extra privacy when camping with friends with the Suisse Sport Yosemite two-room dome tent. Designed to sleep up to four people, the tent includes a removable divider that splits the tent in two. As a result, you can wall off other campers when changing clothes or sleeping, or you can remove the divider to create a single large room. The Yosemite also includes a double D door for easy entry and exit, along with a full four-point rainfly to keep you dry on moist evenings. And ventilation is always a concern in warm, muggy climates, which is why the tent includes three mesh zippered windows and a mesh ceiling. The tent measures 10 by 6 by 8 feet (W x H x D) and weighs roughly 13.65 pounds.

Coleman SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome Tent (Orange/Gray) Review

Coleman SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome TentThis is only the second tent I've ever owned. The first one was a real crappy sub $20 from Sports Authority. That $20 one worked fine for that one night I used it for but I vowed spend a little more next time and hope for much better quality. The 2-person $20 leaked a bit, was terribly cramped and was awfully humid inside. All of those problems went away with this Coleman. Here are just a few reasons why I'm very happy with my purchase:

First, the price was pretty reasonable. If you find another brand with a similar design for a little less, that's fine and all but I was happy to pay what I paid and get a Coleman - even someone that has never been camping before knows Coleman is pretty trusted when it comes to things like tents, coolers and anything you use outdoors.

Second, I thought most of the other reviews here were pretty favorable. I'm just a guy that wants to head to a campsite 2-3 times a year and spend a night or two with my girlfriend. There was another review here about how it fit a guy and his fiancée with a queen size air mattress very well. That review pretty much sold me and it was spot on. I also learned that a queen size air mattress is actually a little smaller than a regular size full size you'd have in your home. That's still fine for two people but just don't think you're going to fit a giant mattress in there. The "queen" Coleman air mattress I purchased fit very well with ample room to spare.

Third, I like the colors of this tent - definitely not a great reason to base your choice of shelter but I still like the way it looks.

Fourth, It poured rain as we slept the first night. It was a pretty bad thunderstorm and it came down hard. There were not any leaks I could find. It also probably helped that this was a brand new tent, I'm pretty sure all tents will spring leaks as they get older and require seam sealer.

Fifth, Ease of use - this thing goes up and comes down pretty easily. A child can figure this thing out and it fits in a bag that's pretty small and easy to manage.

So if you're like me and just need a nice little tent for the occasional camping trip, this is a great choice. You can see how it looks in my pics compared to a giant 8 person tent too.
